VETEXPERT VetoSkin 90 Capsules - Product description

Preparation for dogs and cats to support proper skin function, also in case of dermatological disorders such as dry, flaky skin, excessive sebum secretion, dry, dull and brittle hair. Thanks to its carefully selected ingredients, it helps improve the condition of the skin, which directly translates into an improvement in the quality of the hair coat (coat or hair). Its use is recommended for animals with dry and dull skin, as well as with excessive hair loss and sebum production. Administration of VetoSkin reduces the intensity of pruritus and alleviates the symptoms of atopic dermatitis in dogs after just 2 months of use.

Additional information

The mechanism of action of VetoSkin supplementary food is based on the effects of the individual ingredients in this formulation as described in the scientific literature:

Polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-6 family are one of the most important nutrients involved in maintaining healthy skin and coat. These include linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids (particularly high levels are found in borage oil), which play a particularly important role in maintaining the integrity of the skin's water barrier. These acids are part of special structures that bind skin cells together (so-called ceramides). These are special intercellular lipid lamellae that prevent water from penetrating between cells. As a result, the skin retains an adequate amount of water, remains elastic and resilient, and does not flake or dry out. Omega-3 fatty acids are commonly used in clinical diets for dogs with dermatological disorders (Bauer, 1994).

Polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids have primarily anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects, as they are precursors of anti-inflammatory eicosanoids. Increasing the amount of these acids in the diet of an animal requiring anti-inflammatory treatment may result in either a reduction in the dose of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs administered or even no need for them at all. In the case of dermatological disorders, omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the occurrence of inflammation in the affected areas, which can have a very beneficial effect in reducing pruritus (Bauer, 1994),.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids have been used as a dietary supplement in a number of studies on dogs, in which they have been shown to improve skin condition in dogs with atopic dermatitis (Abba et al., 2005).

Zinc is a micronutrient that plays an important role in skin cell proliferation and is involved in skin wound healing. Zinc deficiencies in the diet of dogs lead to specific disorders called dermatoses. These develop characteristic skin lesions: scales, pustules and ulcerations. In the presence of disorders, zinc is used in dogs in various forms and doses (zinc sulphate - 10 mg/kg; zinc gluconate 10 mg/kg) (Hensel, 2010).

The B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12) play a key role in the metabolism of essential fatty acids of the omega-6 and omega-3 family. Supplementation with these acids may not be effective in cases of deficiency of these vitamins, as they are coenzymes for many enzymes involved in the metabolic processes of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Another B vitamin is biotin. Administered orally, it enters the sebaceous glands and is then excreted on the skin surface. Its presence in the sebaceous glands partially reduces sebum secretion and inhibits the intensity of oily skin, which is particularly beneficial in dogs with seborrhoea. (Watson, 1998).
