Tetra test strips allow you to quickly and easily test the six most important pond water parameters in one simple step: simply dip the strip in the water and wiggle it around for one to two seconds, then shake the water off and read the most important parameter information after 60 seconds. The result can be compared with the colour chart to determine which values are within a safe range.
Measures the pH level, total and carbonate hardness (GH + KH), nitrite (NO2-), nitrate (NO3-) and chlorine (Cl2) content of the aquarium water. Aquarium organisms, such as fish, react strongly to excessive changes in the pH level, which affects their wellbeing. Total hardness affects the vital functions of fish, while carbonate hardness directly shapes the stability of the pH value (pH buffer). The test strips also measure nitrite and nitrate levels in the aquarium water. Nitrite is very harmful, even in low concentrations, and should not be present in the water in detectable quantities. Nitrates are biogenic substances that promote plant growth. However, excessive NO3- can be detrimental to fish and promote excessive algal growth.
